SEASON 2022-23

3 March 2023

"ACADEMY"'S CREDITABLE DRAW

On Wednesday Altrincham FC U19 A Red a.k.a. Altrincham FC Academy beat Darlington FC U19s 3-1 to extend their unbeaten run to four games and lift themselves to fifth in the thirteen-strong NLFA North Division.

Before that match they had drawn at home to second-placed Ntotts County academy who trail the league leaders, Blyth Spartans U19 Academy by six points.

Altrincham FC Academy player Tom Jones reported on a 1-1 home draw with Notts County Academy on the Altrincham FC website.

He wrote that "The young Robins... came within five minutes of yielding a notable win...

The back four of McGeady, Igeze, Bailey and Bonney-Phillips battled fiercely in their defensive half, with Byron in the sticks rarely having a save to make. .. and midfield trio of Chambers, German and Njie... dictated the play to such an extent that County barely had a sniff of the ball...

After 65 minutes, Altrincham countered off a well-defended corner, with Williams leading the charge down the right wing. Williams' great run led to a goal, as he placed the ball right in front of Jones for an easy tap in, with the goalkeeper having no chance.

Substitutions were made after 70 minutes, with Dixon coming on for Jones, Adeniyi for Bonney-Phillips and igbanke for Lynch up front. The team showed no sign of resting...

However, a slight lack of concentration around the edge of the box was punished by a thunderous, top corner strike that hauled County level with just five minutes left...

Squad: Dane Byron, Sam Bonney-Philips, Loui Williams, Adam Lynch, Eddie Igeze, Owen German, Sheriff Njie, Joel Bailey, Liam Evans, Ollie Dixon, Yusuf Adeniyi, Ewan McGeady, Jake Mallen, Tom Jones, Sam Chambers, Alfred Igbinake

MIXED FORTUNES FOR UNDER-19S

Now branded as "Altrincham FC U19 A Red", the Altrincham FC Under-19 team has had a mixed time recently with one win, a draw and two defeats in its four most recent fixtures.

A long trip on 23 November 2022 to play Gateshead FC U19s North ended in a 2-1 defeat to The Heed youngsters in the North Division.

They then drew 1-1 in North Division league match away to FC Halifax Town U19 before a Cup match on 30 November, 2022 saw them lose at home 2-3 to York city's under-19s in a cup tie.

In their first match of the New Year, on 6 January in the North Division, they beat Boston United FC U19 3-2. Having fallen behind by half-time, the Alty team recovered to lead 3-1 before Gateshead netted a second. The goals for Altrincham came from Cata, Njie and a penalty converted by German.

UNDER-19S

Altrincham FC under-19 player Loui Williams reports on his side's 5-2 home win over Chesterfield U-19s in the National League North Division at Egerton...

Chesterfield "managed to be the only team to beat Alty twice last year.

The Robins started the game in fast and aggressive fashion... This positive start was rewarded 15 minutes in, as right-back Ewan McGeady played a great pass in between the defensive line for striker Adam Lynch to take around the keeper and calmly slot the ball in the back of the net for the opening goal.

It wasn’t long before Alty doubled their lead, as right winger Loui Williams pressed the Chesterfield goalkeeper and managed to win the ball before cutting it back for attacking midfielder Sheriff Nije, who despatched his shot beyond a line of defenders on the line to make it 2-0...

Chesterfield's efforts were finally rewarded with the last kick of the first half...[as] the number nine, who had an easy finish...

Alty built on their defensive resilience with a third goal 10 minutes into the second half...Williams.. drove forward and squared it for Lynch to finish... 10 minutes later... left winger Ryan Morton went on a great run and rounded it off with a cool finish under the goalkeeper.

A brief loss of concentration resulted in a second for Chesterfield...

Williams was eventually brought down in the opposition box, winning a penalty for the Robins. Up stepped Alty number six German to send the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot...
