CUP WIN FOR LADIES
Last Sunday, Altrincham Ladies won their place in the next round of the SSE FA Women's Cup First Qualifying Round with a 4-2 win over Didsbury.Ian Langford has kindly supplied the following report...
"Altrincham edged an exciting see saw contest that saw the Lady Robins reach the Second Qualifying Round for the first time in their history.
Alty reached this stage by beating Accrington in the previous round while Didsbury caused a surprise defeating West Didsbury and Chorlton.
Despite the heavy rain in the morning the pitch was in excellent condition. Didsbury had the first chance on two minutes when Lizzie Brereton made a good save. Both sides had a couple of half chances until the 43rd minute when Alty took the lead when Graciela Diaz-Thorpe received the ball 10 yards out, she turned and fired it into the roof of the net.
Didsbury equalised on 51 minutes with a good finish. Didsbury took the lead on 64 minutes with a near post header from a corner.
Alty responded on 71 minutes when Jess Hartopp made it 2-2 with a fine one-on-one finish after being sent clear by Aimee Hopkinson.
81 minutes saw the home side win a penalty when Summer Breed was fouled in the area. Jade Hesketh calmly slotted the penalty away to make it 3-2.
The 90th minute saw Didsbury inches away from equalising from close range from a fine low cross. Alty then counter-attacked when Jade Hesketh broke clear and sealed the victory for the Lady Robins.
Altrincham LFC now travel to Northwich Vixens in the next round which is due to be played on Sunday 6th October."

ALTY LADIES FRUSTRATE CHESTER FC
As reported earlier, Altrincham FC Ladies drew with Chester FC last Sunday. Chester FC report that "Rachel Lever was on target again as Chester FC Women gained a point with a 1-1 draw at Altrincham. Despite creating a number of good chances throughout, the Blues were unable to make the pressure count and manager Martin Fitzsimons admitted it was a frustrating result.Lever fired Chester ahead in the first half with an excellent long range strike, however Alty levelled things before the break and defended well to earn a share of the spoils...
Fitzsimons said 'On paper it was a good result, however we should have taken all three points. In the first half we used the ball and created a few chances, looking particularly dangerous down the left hand side. The pressure on that side of the pitch paid off when Rachel Lever hit the top corner from 25 yards to make it 1-0. The next 10 minutes were more even and Altrincham drew level but that seemed to wake us up and for the rest of the half we were camped at their end.
'The second half was much the same. The midfield controlled the game but despite our best efforts and a number of chances we couldn’t find that second goal. Overall it was another promising performance but it felt like a defeat because it was a game we should have won... We need to be a little more clinical in front of goal'".
