ALTY YOUTH 5 ALTY JUNIORS 0
Pictured (right) is action from the game in which John Bennett (no.6) and Joel Brownhill for Alty Youth (in yellow) challenge the Juniors' no. 11 for possession, as Dan Shaw looks on. And the referee even wore sunglasses!
In this afternoon's friendly match at Moss Lane, Altrincham FC Youth, including many trialists, beat Altrincham FC Juniors under-18s, 5-0.
ALTRINCHAM FC YOUTH: 1. James Fossdyke, 2. Ben Shawcross, 3. James Smart, 4. Ryan Marsden, 5. Dominic Bates, 6. John Bennett, 7. Richard Hughes, 8. Jamie Brown, 9. Kieran Madden, 10. Dan Shaw (capt), 11. Joel Brownhill. Subs: 12. Rory Bradbury, 14. Sam Prince, 15. Lewis Little, 16. Tom Cole, GK. Saul Stapley.
Altrincham FC Youth ran out comfortable winners against the Altrincham FC Juniors' under-18s. Early Youth-team pressure led to good work from Kieran Madden which Shaw completed with a header into the net after 17 minutes. The Youth team won four corners in as many minutes as the game approached the half-way mark but there was no further scoring till the 40th minute when Richard Hughes got in a good cross from the right, which Joel Brownhill nodded home. Next, Dan Shaw, who was having an impressive game, had a swerving shot pushed away by the Juniors' keeper. But the respite for the Juniors was short as, just over a minute after their second goal, the Youths made it 3-0 with John Bennett's left-footed shot (41 mins).
Various substitutions had been made in the first half and at the interval the Youth team brought on Saul Stapley in goal, as well as Rory Bradbury and Sam Prince. On the hour mark, Hughes made it 4-0 with a looping header over the keeper. The Juniors enjoyed their best spell of the game in the middle of the second half, forcing a fine save from Stapley, but with Marsden and Bates impressing at the back, few openings were being created by the Juniors.
However, Dominic Bates then had to be replaced after taking a knock, but further forward Brownhill continued to be a threat whilst Madden got into a number of good shooting positions but without success. Hughes, too, was looking lively on the right. For the Juniors, the number eleven and eighteen were among their more prominent players.
Brownhill made it 5-0 four minutes from time with a well-taken goal which followed his own dribble past a couple of defenders. An entertaining game then ended with Alty Youth manager George Heslop and his coaching team of Tony Spilsbury and Gareth Thomas having seen plenty of talent from which to fashion their squad for next season.

YOUTHS BACK ON TRACK
After last week's heavy defeat in the league, Altrincham FC youth team, playing as the Altrincham & District FA Youth team, put in an impressive performance on Sunday, beating previously unbeaten Stockport & District FA Youth 2-1 at Woodley Sports. However, the win came too late to allow Altrincham FA to progress in the Cheshire County FA District Cup, which they have held for the last three seasons. Altrincham's goals came from Kane Berkeley and Paul Cordock. The win was all the more commendable as manager George Heslop had to field a new centre-back pairing of full-back Dan Fradley and midfielder Dan Shaw. But they performed excellently in a very good team performance. Altrincham FC Youth hope to have defender Ben Oliver back from injury shortly; their next match is in the league at home to Marine at Wythenshawe Town next Sunday (23rd) at 2pm.13 November 2008

ALTY CRASH OUT OF FA YOUTH CUP
Cammell Laird Youth dealt Altrincham FC Youth a heavy 5-1 defeat at Kirklands on Wednesday night. After Alty had failed to convert a great headed chance from a second minute corner, Alty found themselves two down inside nine minutes of the game. Both goals were impressive; a fine 25 yard shot from Robinson after four minutes and a superb chip over the keeper by Jones, five minutes later. It could have been worse as Lairds smashed a shot against the post. But the Birkenhead side made it 3-0 through Noakes (34 mins), followed by the same player's second and his side's fourth goal, following a defensive error in the 43rd minute. Alty made a better fist of it in the second period but Gardner made it 5-0 with 11 minutes remaining. Altrincham FC Youth's first league game, at home to Morecambe today, ended in a fine 3-0 win for the home side. Fielding just four players from last season, the new-look Altrincham played plenty of good football to earn their victory. Striker Josh Smith put them ahead with a well-taken drive in the 26th minute. Defender Tom Cosgrave headed the second goal in the 62nd minute and John Bennett's speculative long-range shot squirmed through the Morecambe keeper's hand to make it 3-0 in the 70th minute.
