LEAVING LEAGUE
Altrincham Reserves will not be competing in the Lancashire League next season, after three seasons back in that competition. It is expected that, instead, the Reserves will play one-off matches against local opposition.Last season, Altrincham Reserves found themselves placed in a newly created Lancashire League (East) division which meant that most of their away matches involved travelling across the Pennines to Yorkshire.

NEIL FINISHES WITH A WIN
In his last game as Altrincham Reserves' manager, Neil Brown bowed out with a good win from his side against Lancashire League (East) champions Farsley Celtic on Monday night at Moss Lane. Alty won 3-1 thanks to two goals from Scott Metcalfe and one from Rick Chetcuti. Alty finished second in the table behind Farsley

Altrincham Reserves manager Neil Brown (right) has announced that he will be moving on from his post after the Reserves' last match of this season, which is at home to Farsley Celtic. This game has been moved forward from Wednesday to Monday 23rd April at 7.45pm at Moss Lane.
Neil has done an excellent job in his three seasons in charge of Altrincham FC Reserves. He came to Moss Lane with an excellent track record at Fletcher Moss Junior FC, whose graduates included Lewis Chalmers and Pat McFadden. Being Reserves' manager is a very difficult job as it entails fitting in the requirements of the first team players to regain fitness after injury or to retain sharpness after being regulars on the first-team bench. So the side is constantly changing with some matches featuring large numbers of first-teamers and others featuring the normal reserves' squad alone. Under Neil, playing for the Reserves has also proved to be the route into the first team squad for the likes of Lewis and Pat. The Reserves also provides an excellent intermediate stage between the Youth team at Altrincham and the first team with the likes of Kieran Lugsden being another player to benefit from Neil's coaching. The current Reserves' squad is developing such ex-Youth players as Ben Deegan, Astley Mulholland, Andy Keogh, Michael Risk and Adam Walker who all aspire to graduating to the first-team, as well as players spotted in local football like Danny Heffernan and John Maloney.
But Neil has not been content with a single job for, as well as managing the Reserves, he has been the Altrincham FC groundsman for the last couple of years, a task which has occupied many hours of his time in baking heat and pouring rain alike. Fortunately, Neil is staying at Moss Lane in this capacity. And as if these two jobs were not enough, Neil is also an employee of chairman Geoff Goodwin, driving his coaches on school-runs and other trips. Neil's family have also become involved with the club, with Michael and Ashley both regulars in the Reserves, whilst their younger brothers and sister have done their bit helping with the kit and on ballboy/girl duties.
From a personal point of view Neil has been an excellent communicator with this website. Many is the time he has rung from pitchside on a midweek night at Guiseley or Ossett to report on the outcome of an Altrincham Reserves' game. He has decided to move on from Altrincham Reserves to further his football management aspirations and is actively looking at applying for vacancies which may arise in the NW Counties League or higher and we wish him luck in that respect. His knowledge of local football is extensive and he will be an asset to any club that he joins. All at Altrincham FC wish him well in his management career but will no doubt continue to rib him for his aspirations to emulate Premiership groundsmen with his intricate mowing patterns on the Moss Side pitch.

RESERVES' BIZARRE GAME
Altrincham FC Reserves lost their Lancashire League quarter-final match at Farsley Celtic 7-4 tonight. There was no score for 20 minutes before a Farsley player broke his arm and play was stopped. Within minutes of the resumption, Alty were trailing 3-0. They pulled a goal back before immediately conceding a fourth to trail 4-1 at the break. Multiple changes of position at half-time did not help immediately as two more goals were conceded before Alty pulled back from 1-6 to 4-6. But a 7th goal for the Yorkshire side settled any hopes of a remarkable turnaround. Risk, Heffernan, Keogh, Mulholland were the Altrincham scorers.ALTRINCHAM RESERVES: 1. Chris ROWLEY, 2. On Wednesday, after a hatful of chances had gone begging in the first half, largely due to excellent goalkeeping from BPA, Alty scored four second-half goals before the visitors scored a late consolation. The Alty goals came from Deegan, Mulholland (penalty), Mannion and Walker.

The planned charity game at Moss Lane on 30 April in aid of Christie Hospital has been deferred till pre-season of 2007-08. This game will be a return fixture of that held last summer against Holdsworth FC, from Reddish and was noteworthy for a cracking goal from Alty chairman Geoff Goodwin, who is keen to repeat the act in the return match!5 April 2007

RESERVES' LATE WIN
With four minutes to go at Ossett Albion on Friday night, Altrincham FC Reserves were drawing 1-1, but four minutes later they had run out 4-1 winners! AWFUL RESERVES
Altrincham Reserves slumped to a 2-1 defeat away to Wakefield in a Lancashire League match on Wednesday night. Manager Neil Brown described it as an "awful performance" from Altrincham. The team, which included first-team squad members Pat McFadden and Justin Bowler "were just not good enough" said Neil. The Altrincham team was: 1. Chris ROWLEY, 2. Keith WEDGE, 3. DATE CHANGE
The scheduled Altrincham Reserves match this Wednesday, away at Guiseley has been postponed to Saturday 31 March. Guiseley wer given a Wednesday fixture by the League, though they normally play on Tuesdays and they are unable to use their pitch on that day.2 March 2007
LAURENCE RETURNS
Chorley report that "Defender Laurence Ball has returned to Altrincham following the end of his loan spell, and he is believed to now be taking a break from football to concentrate on his studies and exams".26 February 2007

After leading 2-0, Altrincham Reserves succumbed to an equaliser from Hyde United with the last kick of the match in the third minute of added time. Astley Mulholland converted Rod Thornley's excellent pass to give Alty the lead (22 mins) and then Rod himself scored an excellent goal, curling the ball over the Hyde keeper from 25 yards (26 mins). Hyde pulled a goal back 11 minutes from the end through Waine, who tapped home the loose ball after a fierce shot from Hampson had come back off the post. And then former Southport man "Sid" Pickford made it 2-2 from an excellent pass by Rick.Alty Reserves must beat leaders Farsley Celtic when they visit Moss Lane in March if they are to stand any chance of overhauling them in the Lancashire League table.

FIXTURE MIX-UP
The Lancashire League informed Altrincham Reserves that their next match was on Wednesday 28th February whilst their opponents, Hyde United, were seemingly told it was on Monday 26th. After consultations between the clubs, it has now been agreed that the game will be on Monday 26th February at 7.45pm at Ewen Fields, Altrincham are expected to include a number of first team squad players.ALTY RES. 2 ATHERTON COLLIERIES RES. 0

The team left it late to defeat Atherton Collieries and, left to right, the back four of Keith Wedge, Stephen Rose, Gary Talbot and Andy Scott seemed to have had particularly close encounters with their barbers before the match..
Altrincham Reserves, with nine players who have played for the first team this season, defeated Atherton Collieries 2-0 this afternoon in the Lancashire League Cup at Moss Lane. Chris Senior netted his first goal in an Altrincham shirt after 87 minutes following good work from Justin Bowler. And then, as with the first goal, Richard Acton started the move which led to Astley Mulholland scoring the second in the ninetieth minute.

RESERVES NOW AT MOSS LANE
Alty Reserves' game this Saturday was supposed to be away, in the Lancashire League Cup, at Atherton Collieries. But the Colliers have another match on their pitch so the tie has now been switched to Moss Lane, where it will kick off at 2pm. Alty are expected to include some first teamers in their line-up.18 February 2007
GOOLE DROP OUT
The NL Daily reports that "A lack of commitment by local players has seen Goole AFC`s reserve side resign from the Lancit Haulage Lancashire League. The club were advised by the league to post a letter of resignation following a failure to complete a number of away fixtures [including one against Altrincham]. Goole secretary Tex Williamson said: 'The reason for doing this was because of a lack of commitment by mainly local players, who wished only to play at home, and did not wish to travel to away games, contrary to players who travel from Leeds, Harrogate, Doncaster and Grimsby for every game, home or away. My sympathies also go to the Goole chairman and his committee who had set to this reserve side in order to give the local talent and prospective players a quality introduction to the higher standard which would be required of them, if they were to develop enough to represent the town in the UniBond League'... Goole chairman Des O'Hearne told Goole Today: 'The reserves lacked support from the players in Goole and as a result we have had no alternative but to resign from the league. It cost £125 every time we couldn't fulfil a fixture and it is not good for our name'".Alty's 1-0 win at Goole earlier this season has therefore been expunged from the records. EMBARRASSING DEFEAT
The following is based on information supplied by Neil Brown.Altrincham Reserves' manager Neil Brown said that he was "totally embarrassed" after watching his side's lamentable second-half performance at Valley Road, Flixton, tonight (Tuesday) in a friendly match. Altrincham slumped to a deserved 4-1 defeat to a Flixton side including only seven of their first-teamers. Altrincham fielded a strong reserve side (Rowley; Risk, McAllister, Edwards, Wedge; M. Brown, Maloney, Keogh, Bowler; Heffernan, McFadden. Subs: Walker, Walters, Mulholland and a trialist, Scott) and the score was level at half time after a decent 45 minutes from the visitors. Indeed, in the first half, Justin Bowler scored an excellent goal and Chris Rowley made a fine save but, after the break, Alty went behind to a very doubtful penalty when a player fell over the ball. But then the visitors fell apart and were comprehensively beaten by a Flixton team which included the familiar face of former Alty youth and reserve player Paul Monaghan. The Altrincham performance is all the more disappointing given that the team has lost just once in the Lancashire League this season.

RESERVES DRAW
Altrincham FC Reserves drew 1-1 at home to FC United of Manchester Reserves in a friendly at Moss Lane today. Justin Bowler scored very early on when no one made contacvt with his freekick and it went into the net; FCUM equalised very late in the game.SATURDAY AT MOSS LANE - NEW OPPONENTS
This Saturday (3rd), Altrincham Reserves should have played a league match at home to Goole at 2pm. But for the second season in a row, the Yorkshire side has been unable to raise a team - or at least they could raise ten but were unwilling to play with that number or even with the loan of a player. The postponement means that the game has to be replayed at a later date.However, manager Neil Brown, who in his other capacity as groundsman had just spent four hours preparing the pitch when the postponement was announced, has hastily arranged a friendly against FC United of Manchester Reserves, kicking off at Moss Lane at the same time, 2pm, on Saturday (3rd). Spectators are welcome for this second game against FCUM - the first was played on Blessed Thomas Holford's all-weather pitch on 20 January with Alty winning 3-1.

The Lancashire League has issued a statement: "At the Management Meeting on Monday 22nd January 2007, it was decided that the format for deciding the League Champions, and League Cup Winners for 2006 - 2007 would be:-LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
The winners of the West Division will play the winners of the East Division over two legs Home and Away. The overall winners will be League Champions, and the losers will be League Runners Up. In the second leg if the overall tie is drawn after 90 minutes, then there will be 30 minutes extra time. If it is still a draw after 30 minutes extra time, then the tie will be decided by Kicks from the Penalty Mark, as per the F.A. Rules for deciding games on Penalties. Away goals in both legs will not count as double.
LEAGUE CUP
The Quarter Finals of the League Cup will be played over one leg as follows:-
If ties in the Quarter Finals, Semi Finals, and Final are drawn after 90 minutes, then there will be 30 minutes extra time. If ties are still drawn after 30 minutes extra time, then the tie will be decided by Kicks from the Penalty Mark, as per the F.A. Rules for deciding games on Penalties. In all ties Away goals will not count as double.
The draw for the Semi Finals will be made on Monday 26th March 2007".

Altrincham Reserves defeated Hyde United Reserves 2-0 tonight in an entertaining game at a chilly Moss Lane. The goals game from Pat McFadden, after a fine run to the by-line by Justin Bowler, and from Bowler himself. Bowler's 35-yard freekick from the right touchline crept into the net after Thornley's run into the box had distracted the goalkeeper. The bad news was that Pat McFadden limped off at the end.
Right: Playing at left-back, wearing no.3, for Alty Reserves tonight was Andy Scott (31). Andy has played for a variety of clubs against Altrincham in the past, including Leigh RMI, Stalybridge Celtic (from 1999), Southport, and Lancaster City, who he joined in January 2002. More recently he has been at Kidsgrove Athletic and captained them against us in a pre-season friendly in July 2006.

The Reserves now have a Lancashire League Cup match at home to Rossendale United at 7.45pm on Wednesday 31 January.They should also be in action tonight (24th) at Moss Lane against Hyde United in the same competition, depending on the weather.

RESERVES WIN
Alty Reserves beat FC United of Manchester Reserves 3-1 today in a friendly. The Alty goals came from Aaron Walters, a penalty from Justin Bowler and Astley Mulholland.The game was hastily arranged on Friday evening and was played at Blessed Thomas Holford School, Altrincham on its all-weather pitch at 11.15am today (Saturday). As a number of Alty's Reserves were unavailable, the squad included some new faces. Alty Reserves' captain Keith Wedge and centre-back Laurence Ball were on loan to Chorley for their first-team squad today, whilst Ben Deegan (glandular fever) and Rick Chetcuti (recovering from appendicitis) were both out, for two or three weeks. In addition, Colin McAllister was unavailable due to work commitments. Amongst taking part in the game against FCUM were Chris Rowley, Danny Heffernan, Aaron Edwards, Michael Risk, John Maloney, Mike Brown, Justin Bowler and Astley Mulholland.

Yet again, wet weather has caused the postponement of a Reserves' match. This time it is tonight's League Cup match against Rossendale United at Moss Lane. The next match is on Wednesday 24 January at home (7.45pm) to Hyde United, also in the League Cup.15 January 2007

Reserve player Rick Chetcuti was rushed to hospital recently with acute appendicitis. After an operation, Rick is now recovering and Altrincham FC wish him a speedy recovery.11 January 2007
FIXTURE CHANGES
Altrincham Reserves now have a re-arranged fixture this Saturday when they travel to the artificial pitch at Woodley Sports to play a reversed home League Cup fixture, away, to Woodley Sports. Kick off is at 2pm. Next week they are scheduled to host Rossendale United at Moss Lane on Wednesday 17th but this may be re-arranged to Thursday if Alty's first team are playing on 16th. FIRST DEFEAT
Alty Reserves lost their first game of the season on Wednesday evening, going down 2-3 at home to a useful Rossendale United side. Alty trailed 0-3 at the break before substitute Rick Chetcuti scored twice. Alty had a goal disallowed and failed to convert a couple of other good chances but Rossendale had earlier struck the woodwork three times. "RESERVES" FALTER
After seven wins and a draw in their first eight games of the season, Altrincham Reserves had ten first-team squad members in their squad but were grateful to a late penalty from Peter Thomson to earn them a point in a 1-1 draw against a young Hyde United Reserves side on Wednesday night at Moss Lane.

LANCS LEAGUE NEWS
Hyde Reserves whom Alty Reserves play tonight, won 4-3 at Rossendale United last Friday. Their side included former Altrincham youth players Tom Hilton and Richard Gresty. "Man of the Match was the angry ant, Tom Gregson".In the Lancashire League, "An experienced but young Morecambe second string showed their undoubted class with a resounding victory at home to second place Fleetwood", 12-1. The Shrimps' trialist Mark Smyth, who was at Alty on trial last season, scored one of the goal. "The second half can only be described as a goal feast as the Reserves scored nine goals in forty minutes with no reply. Matthew Shaw featured in six of the goals scoring the fourth,crossing for Michael West to convert home, then latching on to a long clearance from Scot Davies. Soon after scoring from a tight angle he completed his hat trick and netting his fourth with an explosive shot from 25 yards which hardly rose above ground level. ANOTHER RESERVES' GAME OFF
Tomorrow's Reserves game at home to Goole has been postponed as the Humberside club cannot raise a team for the game. The next game for Altrincham Reserves is now against Hyde United Res., this Wednesday at Moss Lane (7.45pm), though that match, too, could be postponed should the FA Cup match between Rushden and Altrincham require a replay. The Cup replay would be played at Moss Lane on the Tuesday night and a second match on the pitch in 24 hours would not be desirable.A date to put in your diary is a week on Saturday (4th November) when Alty Resrves are again scheduled to play at Moss Lane, against Ossett Town (k.o. 2pm). As Alty's first team has a Sunday game that weekend (at York City on 5th November), why not come to Moss Lane and watch the Reserves on the Saturday (4th)?

MATCH OFF - COLIN AND GARY FRUSTRATED
Tonight's Reserves game at Bradford PA has been postponed due to heavy rain.Alty striker Colin Little (left) and centre-back Gary Talbot (right) were both set to return to action in the match. Colin has missed the last nine first-team matches through injury, after being fouled against Halifax Town, whilst "Talbs" has missed ten games with a calf problem. The squad included ten first-team squad members in total. HELPING THE RESERVES
When the Reserves travel to Bradford Park Avenue tonight they are likely to include at least half a dozen of the first-team squad - as they did last week against Ossett Albion. But not only do the Reserves serve as a useful way for getting first-teamers back to match fitness, they have also produced some good talent of their own for the first team. Both Pat McFadden and Danny Heffernan have reached the first-team squad having joined Altrincham Reserves from local football, whilst many of George Heslop's Alty Youth players have graduated via the Reserves to the first team, including Kieran Lugsden, Lewis Chalmers and Lee Hendley. So, what the Moss Lane crowds see in the way of good Conference National performances from Altrincham owe a lot to the Reserves and their manager Neil Brown and physio Alan Ainsley.But it obviously costs money to run the Reserves and gate money far from covers that, especially now that Altrincham reserves find themselves in the Eastern section of the Lancashire League which might more accurately be called the Yorkshire League! The Reserves normally travel to away games in pooled private cars, with the players driving themselves and receiving petrol money from the Club in return.
A very practical way of helping Altrincham FC would be to sponsor the travel costs to a Reserves' away game. As little as £30 would go a long way but any sum would be very welcome. In return you would receive recognition in the Robins' Review programme and on the website (if you so wished) and you would have the satisfaction of knowing that you had done the Club a great service. RESERVES HIT SEVEN
An Alty Reserve side, with a strong first-team squad representation, overcame Ossett Albion Reserves 7-2 at Moss Lane tonight (Wednesday) though, after almost forty minutes, the score was still 1-1.

Further Reserves' news concerns Richard Gresty, the former Altrincham Youth team captain who graduated to the Reserves this season and got injured in pre-season playing for a Sale side in the Umbro International Tournament. Richard then arranged to go to Trafford FC to regain fitness and an agreement was reached between Altrincham and Trafford for him to return to Altrincham once he had re-established himself. However, the England Colleges centre-back has now decided to move to Hyde United, and he turned out for their Reserves this week against Farsley Celtic.

DRAW
Alty Reserves drew 1-1 at Leigh RMI in the Lancashire League's cup competition, whose early stages are played on a league basis. Their next league game is this Wednesday (18th) at Moss Lane against Ossett Albion (7.45pm).7 October 2006
CHANGE OF GAME
Next Saturday's league game at Guiseley has been postponed and will be replaced by an away game in a new Lancashire League cup competition, at Leigh RMI. Originally, this Cup was to be played for via a group stage on a league basis but Alty are not in the same group as Leigh according to the League website. Obviously this has now changed and I will try to obtain information about the name of the competition and how it is structured as soon as possible. Saturday's game is at Hilton Park at 2pm.6 October 2006
WELL-TRAVELLED KEEPER
Goalkeeper Neil Thompson who played for Alty Reserves last Wednesday came to Moss Lane after a short spell at Barnet. Prior to that the London-born keeper was Workington-based and played for Carlisle United after having two months at Hull City. He also played Conference North football for Runcorn FC Halton last season and joined Barrow in December 2005 on work experience from Carlisle. Released by Carlisle in the summer of 2006, he joined Llanelli and was in the squad for their UEFA Cup Qualifying round tie but did not get on the pitch.5 October 2006

PETER PLAYS
Alty supporters Neil Dawson, Neil Faulkner and Tom Jacobs (seen, right, at Cammell Laird) will be amongst those to get their second chance to see Alty's new striker, Peter Thomson, in action this Wednesday for Altrincham Reserves. Peter (seen wearing Lee Hendley's shirt) was injured in the game at Lairds in July and has not played since. After rehabilitation at Lilleshall recently, Peter is expected to play against Woodley Sports Reserves. K.O. is at 7.45pm and entry is just £2 (concessionaries £1).
Despite winning all five of their games to date, Altrincham Reserves lie third in the latest Lancashire League table... but they do have games in hand on those above them.

Reserve player Ashley Brown would like to thank everyone who supported the Chinese banquet, last Wednesday, to raise funds for him, following his injury at Runcorn Town where he broke his leg in pre-season. A very good sum was raised and Ashley is especially grateful to master of ceremonies Graham Heathcote, chairman Geoff Goodwin and special guest, Stuart Coburn, for giving their time on the evening. The Lancashire League has an updated league table and results. Alty Reserves' next game is away at Woodley Sports next Saturday, k.o. 2pm.Last season's Lancashire League ended in some confusion with some fixtures not being played. The official table for 2005-06 shows Altrincham as leading scorers with 101 goals, but finishing fourth. The title was won by Morecambe on goal difference, after they were docked three points for a fielding an unregistered player.

Altrincham FC is arranging a Chinese banquet for the benefit of Reserve team player Ashley Brown, who suffered a double fracture of the leg whilst playing for Alty Reserves against Runcorn Town in a pre-season friendly. The injury was a complete accident but it left Ashley encased in a full-length leg cast and he will be out of action for several months. The event will be at the well-known Chef Peking restaurant in Urmston on Wednesday, 13th September (7.30 for 8pm). Tickets are just £15 and those who have attended previous events at the Chef Peking will need no reminding that the food and service are excellent. The event will be compered by Graham Heathcote, who proposed the idea of the evening, having arranged previous events for injured first-team players Marcus Hallows and Stephen Rose. It will include an auction of sporting memorabilia. A number of first-team players will be in attendance. GUISELEY VIEW
After their defeat by Altrincham Reserves, Guiseley report that "the team performed well after losing two very early goals before settling into their game. Against a strong reserve team with a good first team presence Guiseley Reserves showed good team spirit and hard work in playing their way back into the match with good periods of attacking football. A last minute converted penalty for Altrincham's third goal over shadowed a good opening display in which an outstanding debut was made by goalkeeper Matthew Platt for the reserves. Steve Milner, Reserve Team Manager, later commented: 'I really felt for the lads. A surprise inclusion at left-back for Alty was Chris Adams, recently released by Altrincham. On Saturday (5th Aug.) at 2pm at Wythenshawe Town FC, Alty Reserves take on Town in the first game of a double header, the second match being next Thursday (10th) at 7pm ,also at Wythenshawe. RESERVES' LEAGUE
Alty Reserves play in the increasingly inaccurately named Lancashire Football League which has confirmed the reorganisation of the League into two regional divisions, East and West. "Both divisions consist of 10 clubs, therefore playing on a home and away basis, each club will play 18 league games, 9 at home and 9 away. The split of the two divisions is as follows:East Division
Altrincham, Farsley Celtic, Goole Town, Guiseley, Hyde United, Ossett Albion, Ossett Town, Rossendale United, Wakefield, Woodley Sports,
West Division
Atherton Collieries, Bamber Bridge, Barrow AFC, Burscough, Fleetwood Town, Lancaster City, Leigh RMI, Morecambe, Skelmersdale United, Workington
We would be hoping to complete possibly 10 fixtures by the mid November period, with the remaining league fixtures then re-commencing in early/mid February and being completed by the 1st Saturday in May. During the in between period (mid November to Mid February) we would run the first stages of a cup competition based on a league formula. With 20 teams it has been decided to run with 4 divisions of 5, played on a home and away basis, making 8 games in the league group stage. This would then give all teams 26 matches during the season, this is a figure that we know most, if not all clubs are happy with. The competition would again be split geographically, a, b, c, d. Winners of a, would play runners up of b, winners of b would play runners up of a, with c and d likewise. The winners of each group would be at home in the quarter finals. Semi finals would be an open draw, one game only, on ground of team drawn first. The final would be on a ground and on a date to be decided. The quarter finals, semi finals and final would take place between mid February and the end of the season.

Alty Reserves' manager Neil Brown would like to thank everyone who has sent messages of support for his son, Ashley (right), who suffered a double fracture of the leg last night at Runcorn Town whilst playing for Altrincham Reserves. 18 year-old Ashley was to have an operation to pin the leg today but the specialist decided that as his leg bones were very strong, it would be better simply to plaster the leg. Ashley is now in a full-leg plaster cast which he will have to wear for three months.

ASHLEY'S INJURY
The injury to Altrincham Reserves' Ashley Brown is, sadly, worse than feared. After being carried off (see below) in last night's friendly at Runcorn Town, Ashley was taken to hospital in Warrington. There, x-rays have revealed that he has broken both his tibia and fibula and he will have an operation on the fractures today, which may involve a plate or screws being inserted. All at Altrincham and Runcorn Town FCs wish him a full and speedy recovery from the injury. It was Ashley's 18th birthday last Saturday and he was looking forward to the new season, having established himself in the Altrincham Reserves as a left-sided defender/ wing-back last season. Despite his injury, Ashley is keen that all who saw the game don't forget the expert chest down and flick of the ball over an opponent which he executed before he got injured last night! Thanks are due to Alty physio Alan Ainsley and his Runcorn counterpart, Alan Charlesworth, as well as the ambulance crew, for their expert handling of the injury.RUNCORN TOWN 0 ALTRINCHAM RESERVES 2

Altrincham were made very welcome at Runcorn Town's Pavilions complex for a game which was overshadowed by a bad injury to Alty's Ashley Brown. After taking a two-goal lead inside 8 minutes, both goals being well taken by former Preston North End youngster Ashley Stott, Brown suffered a serious injury to his right leg when he went in bravely for a 50/50 ball. After almost 10 minutes of treatment on the pitch by physio Alan Ainsley and his Runcorn counterpart, Ashley was stretchered off and then taken by ambulance to hospital in Warrington. It is hoped that the leg is not fractured but only an x-ray will tell. The game was played in four quarters of 20 minutes to make allowance for the fierce heat and the sloping pitch made it even harder work when playing up the slope. Though there were no more goals the game was well contested and allowed manager Neil Brown to blend a number of last season's youth team and reserve players with some new faces. Report here.

The Lancashire League, in which Altrincham Reserves play, has ben restructured into two divisions, West and East. Altrincham have been out into the eastern section so six of their nine league opponents this season hail actually from Yorkshire (Goole Town, Wakefield, Ossett Albion, Ossett Town, Farsley Celtic and Guiseley), the other three being Woodley Sports, Rossendale United and Hyde United. The season starts on 19th August but the fixtures have yet to be drawn up. It is believed that there will be a cup competition as well. Altrincham Reserves, managed by Neil Brown (right), expect to play their home games either on Wednesday evenings or Saturday afternoons, at Moss Lane.
