FC UNITED OF MANCHESTER (1) 2
ALTRINCHAM (3) 6

Emirates FA Cup Round Four Qualifying replay match
played on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, at 7.45pm

SUMMARY:

After Altrincham had started well, FCUM went ahead with their first real attack as the lively Grivosti advanced past Taylor before firing home from outside the box, his shot entering the net off the underside of the crossbar (13 mins).

But barely a couple of minutes later a fine goal by Leo Farrell made it 1-1. The Barnsley loanee wove his way through several opponents before his low shot found the corner of the net (15 mins).

After a more even spell, Alty went ahead in the 32nd minute when Kosylo, Kirk and Taylor were involved before Knowles netted from close range to make it 1-2 (32 mins).

A Farrell shot then came back off the post for Barlow to tap home and make it 1-3 (36 mins).

That remained the score at the interval.

A superb strike by Sam Taylor made it 4-1 shortly before the hour-mark (58 mins).

After Knowles had limped off, substitute Weaver created a fifth goal with Barlow netting from a Kirk assist (66 mins).

There was no relief for the hosts as Farrell finished off an Alty move which culminated in a cross from Sam Taylor, making it 1-6 (69 mins).

Watson pulled a goal back with a smart finish over the advancing Isted to make the final score 2-6 (81 mins).

So Alty can now prepare for a home match against Notts County in Round One.

BACKGROUND:

For the third year running Altrincham had failed to negotiate a Fourth Round Qualifying match at home without the tie going to a replay, having drawn 0-0 with FCUM in the original tie last Saturday.

REPORT:

Altrincham started on the front foot, albeit without creating any clear openings but were then taken aback when FCUM netted with their first real attack. The goal was impressive, with the impressive Grivosti getting the better of Taylor before finding the net off the underside of the bar with a fine shot from outside the box (13 mins).

But the lead did not last long before Leo Farrell jinked his way past several opponents to score into the bottom corner of the net, making it 1-1 (15 mins).

An excellent shot by Kosylo then forced Atherton into parrying the ball away to concede a corner (18 mins)>

Altrincham put themselves ahead after 32 minutes when a Taylor cross was poked home by Jimmy Knowles from close range.

Soon afterwards, when Farrell moved forward right of centre, his shot struck the post, the ball falling for Barlow to tap home Algricham's third goal (36 mins).

FC United failed to take advantage of a Lopata-White slip to get back into the game when Watson got in a shot which went wide of the upright when he might have done better (40 mins).

At the other end, a Taylor effort was palmed away by keeper Atherton (42 mins) before two added minutes were signalled, and then completed, at the end of the half.

The second half started fairly quietly before home manager Mark Beesley appeared to be booked for showing dissent on the sidelines (54 mins).

After an Alty corner had been and gone, Fearnley was booked for a foul on Hinchy (57 mins).

A good Alty move on the left then culminated in a goal for Taylor who, from an angle, found the top corner of the net and celebrated with an impressive back flip (58 mins). That made it 1-4.

Watson them fluffed a decent chance to pull back a goal but he mis-hit his shot off-target.

The hosts now made a double change with Donohue and Le Fondre giving way to Chimalilo and Atkinson(61 mins). For Altrincham there was also a change, an enforced one, as Weaver came on for an injured Knowles who was troubled by his left leg (63 mins).

Soon, Weaver advanced on the left from around halfway feeding Kirk to lay on a chance for Barlow who duly netted his second goal of the evening, making it 1-5 (66 mins).

A sixth goal almost followed immediately when a Weaver shot was parried but Barlow was unable to convert the loose ball (67 mins).

However, a sixth goal did soon arrive as Crawford and Kirk fed Taylor whose cross was converted by Farrell, putting his side ahead 1-6 (69 mins).

Altrincham now made a triple change. Breckin, Banks and Dennis joined the game as Crawford, Kosylo and Farrell, repectively, left the pitch (72 mins).

Soon afterwards there was a welcome return from injury for Eddy Jnes as he replaced Taylor (76 mins).

After Lopata-White had got forward to have a shot saved, FCUM made another change with Finney replacing Devine (78 mins).

Following an Altrincham corner, Watson got clear and deftly clipped the ball over the advancing Isted to finish the scoring at 2-6 (81 mins).

Dennis and Kirk shot wide before the referee declared a surprisingly short, but for the hosts merciful, two added minutes and when he terminated the match Altrincham had scored six away goals in the FA Cup for the first time since 1947.
