The first half was goalless and largely uneventful with an early Breckin shot, which was blocked, as good as it got. .

The second half, although littered with multiple substitutions was an improvement in terms of entertainment but it remained goalless too, with few chances for either side.

Absentees from the Altrincham squad were Matty Kosylo, Eddie Jones, Owen German and Anthony Forde. German has been diagnosed with an Achilles injury which he picked up at Wythenshawe Town. It may rule him out for the entire season.

Elliot Taylor was recently signed by Chorley boss Andy Preece and he started for the Magpies.

BACKGROUND:

This was Altrincham's third game of the summer but their last scheduled match at Vauxhall Motors had been cancelled for unclear reasons by Alty, whilst the previous fixture had been abandoned before half-time amidst a brawl. So, many players had only 45 minutes in their legs from the opening game of the summer at Colwyn Bay.

REPORT:

The first significant action of the match was a Breckin shot, at the end of a decent move, which was blocked, inadvertently by his team-mate Kristian Dennis (5 mins).

Two minutes later, after a Khan foul, Evans made a routine save from the resulting freekick.

After a fine run by Reddin, a Khan freekick came to nothing (22 mins).

Reddin volleyed wildly over the bar five minutes or so before the interval, which arrived with the game goalless and having been largely uneventful.

Alty brought on Fallon, Taylor, Cooper, Olson and Kirk at the interval. Amongst those replaced were Evans, Bailey, Raymond and Hinchy. Chorley also adapted their line-up with no.7 being introduced and, four minutes into the half, a no.22 came on for Smith.

Just before that change a Khan freekick had been well saved by the trialist Chorley keeper. The Magpies no.7 became the first player to be booked and soon Dennis followed him into the book, in his case for kicking the ball away (56 mins).

Following a short corner Banks hit a shot well which brought out an excellent save from the keeper (60 mins).

Soon afterwards Altrincham made a multiple change as Cooper, Humbles, Barlow, Knowles and Weaver replaced Breckin, Crawford, Barnes, Dennis and Reddin (65 mins). KHan assumed to captaincy.

Following Taylor's good work, Charlie Kirk hit the bar with a left-footed effort (69 mins).

Chorley then made a double change (72 mins) before Alty brought back Raymond and Bailey to replace Khan and Banks (75 mins). Jake Cooper took over the captain's armband from Khan.

Taylor was one of the more impressive Altrincham players, operating at left-back. When Chorley's namesake, Taylor, went off presumably injured, the hosts were reduced to ten men (85 mins)

However, the game concluded without anyone scoring.
