ALTRINCHAM (1) 2
SOLIHULL MOORS (0) 0
played on Monday, 25 August, 2025 at 3pm
SUMMARY:
Altrincham arrested their run of three successive defeats with a win and a clean sheet against a Solihull Moors side which barely threatened Luke Hutchinson in the Altrincham goal.
The home side should have led at half-time by more than the single goal netted by Kahrel Reddin from a Knowles nod down in the 19th minute.
Banks's point blank header, which hit a defender on the line three minutes later, was the closest to doubling the lead.
The second half was not a great spectacle but Altrincham sealed the points in the 79th minute when substitute Lucas Weaver got into the box, on the right and, though his advance was blocked by Nicholson, he did well to re-gather himself and find the net with the loose ball.

BACKGROUND:
Nineteenth hosted twentieth today as two teams smarting from defeats met at the JDS on Bank Holiday Monday.
Alty had lost to a rapidly assembled Morecambe side playing its first game, last Saturday. Meanwhile, the Moors, unbeaten after three draws, had crashed 1-5 at home to previously winless Aldershot Town.
Ironically, Alty's only win in their four outings this season had been over the Shots on the opening day of the season. Since then three defeats on the bounce had plummeted them down the table.
REPORT:
On a hot, sunny afternoon, the Moors kicked off towards the Golf Road end and, inside 20 seconds, Creaney aimed a wildy optimistc shot at goal from 40 yards which flew high and wide.
The first bit of real excitement came in the 9th minute when Golden dribbled impressively into the box and, with a shot which was deflected, he won a corner on the left.
Three minutes later a slick counter-attack instigated by Reed, then Reddin, found Marriott who, from left of goal, slid an effort across the face of goal.
Alty continued on top as Reddin's shot from the right was pouched by the visitors' keeper (15 mins). Solihull now got forward, past Golden, but his shot was diverted for a corner.
Nothing came of the corner, but Golden was soon involved again, this time at the other end, as he put a ball into the box which was headed down by Knowles at the back post to Reddin. He swivelled smartly and fired home to give Altrincham the lead (19 mins).
Shortly afterwards it should have been 2-0 as Reddin, Gale and Crawford got the ball into the goalmouth where the incoming Banks headed the ball powerfully but, unfortunately, at a defender on the line (22 mins).
Next, after Golden had intercepted the ball and found Crawford, the midfielder returned the ball for the defender to curl a shot at goal which was saved (24 mins).
A cooling break soon followed at which several Alty players applied bags of ice to the backs of their neck.
Referee Massey-Ellis was annoying Phil Parkinson with his erratic punishment of clear fouls but Altrincham nevertheless maintained their ascendancy over the visitors.
Some rare action for Hutchinson saw the Alty keeper smother a Moors cross, arguably his first meaningful action of the match (33 mins).
For Alty, Crawford was impressing in midfield whilst Sassi was having a good game at the back but the centre-back was now man-handled into the hoardings by the combative Osborne (38 mins).
After Reed had fired well over the bar, Reddin again raced upthe right and got in a shot which Walker beat way for a corner (41 mins).
A firm but fair tackle by Sassi on Osborne near halfway left the Moors man down and the referee stopped the game (44 mins). After treatment Osborne was still complaining about the challenge.
Five added minutes were announced at the start of which a Solihull man climbed all over Gale but Mr Massey-Ellis saw it as a foul by the Alty striker. The remaining minutes largely petered out.
It had been a half in which the visitors had scarcely threatened and Altrincham should have been further ahead than by a single goal.

Solihull were sent out early after the break before Marriott kicked off the second half, but he had to retake it after Creaney had encroached.
It took Reddin just 15 seconds to earn his side a corner, which led to an almighty scramble in the Moors penalty area. Then, as the visitors countered, Reed was booked for a professional foul (47 mins).
Play stopped for an injury to Osborne who had to go off, holding his hip. He was replaced by Whyte-Hall (52 mins).
Solihull now enjoyed a spell of pressure but this was ended when Ward won Altrincham a corner (58 mins). Next, a fine run up the right by Reddin ended with a disappointing cross (60 mins). However, it was Reddin who soon threatened again from a Crawford feed but this time his shot was saved by Walker (65 mins).
Alty made a triple change midway through the half when Barnes replaced Reed, Weaver came on for Reddin (66 mins) and Kirk was introduced for Knowles (67 mins).
Soon, another stoppage saw McFarlane replace Tipton (70 mins) and then a further break ensued for cooling purposes (72 mins).
More disruptions arose as Whitmore was booked for a foul on Gale (76 mins), followed by Crawford being cautioned for what looked like dissent (77 mins).
Next, Ward set Weaver advancing up the right and, inside the box, his advance was blocked by Nicholson but he battled free of the challenge and slotted the ball into the net from the right to make it 2-0 (79 mins).
It was not long before yet another interruption to play ensued for Gale to be booked for a foul on Worman (83 mins). The second half was a very disjointed affair with little flowing football.
Yet another stoppage now saw Ward replaced by Raymond (85 mins), followed by a further interruption as the ball hit the referee.
88 minutes witnessed yet another substitution, this time as Stevenson replaced Lipsiuc (88 mins). All the stoppages induced the referee to declare seven added minutes in which Golden got himself booked over a throw-in (90+1 mins).
Solihull applied some late pressure, from which they won a corner (90+3 mins) but the best they could muster was Worman's shot over the bar from 22 yards (90+6 mins).
This was a deserved and much-needed win for Altrincham and a first clean sheet which lifted them up to thirteenth ahead of two long away trips to Eastleigh and Gateshead.
