TEAM NEWS:

On a steaming hot afternoon, Altrincham sported their new home kit and brought a squad of 24 players which included five new signings and seven trialists, if Joe Nuttall is included in that latter category. The former Oldham loanee, who spent last season with Altrincham, was a surprise starter given that his loan ended in the summer and he has not been announced as a new signing.

The notable absentees from the Altrincham squad were captain Lewis Baines, goalkeeper Louie Fllon and summer signing, Billy Sass-Davies.

BACKGROUND:

For the second successive pre-season, Altrincham were visiting Warrington Town. This time, however, the hosts were a Northern Premier League club having been rlegated from National North last season.

This was both sides' first pre-season game. On this occasion The Yellows had no ex-Altrincham players involved.

REPORT:

The game got under way with the hosts kicking off. There was to be no real attacking threat till ten minutes in, when Lucas Weaver surged up the right wing but overhit his cross.

Shortly afterwards, he repeated the act and went down in the box but play was waved on (13 mins). Altrincham were now getting on top and the first shot of note saw Nuttall lay the ball off for trialist Kirk to shoot firmly, only for Town's new keeper Isherwood to beat away his effort (16 mins).

After a stoppage for drinks (22 mins), Remi Raymond got into the box and swerved round a challenge but his shot went narrowly wide of the keeper's left upright (27 mins). Meanwhile, trialist keeper Casper was unemployed at the other end.

Alty continued on the front foot, with a corner won by Nuttall, followed by a freekick which Golden won and took. His cross was met well by German but his header went wide.

Finally Alty's pressure paid off and, from a Raymond lay off, Joe Nuttall hit a rising shot into the net to make it 0-1 (32 mins).

By now trialist forward Collis was in evidence and fellow-trialist, goalkeeper Casper, was tested for the first time when he comfortably saved a header from Makins.

Collis was given responsbility to take a freekick from right of centre some 25 yards out. He smashed a superb effort against the crossbar (38 mins).

As well as Collis, another two trialists, Thompson and Green, had also been brought on by Altrincham, whilst both Nuttall and Raymond had been withdrawn. Before the break, Green forced a save from Isherwood (44 mins).

The second half starters were eleven different players from thse who had started the first period.

Summer signing Knowles now headed wide (52 mins) before a Warrington trialist forced a comfortable save whilst Kosylo soon also got in a shot at the other end (58 mins).

Alty now brought on Crankshaw in a numberless shirt as well as summer signing, striker James Gale (59 mins).

Within three minutes Crankshaw had scored with a low shot from the left which beat the keeper at his near post (62 mins).

It was soon 3-0 to the visitors as a Reddin shot from the edge of the box was deflected into the net by Gale (65 mins).

Another drinks break arrived midway through the half but the final quarter of the match was not to see any alteration to the score.

In very hot conditions both sides had done well to put on a decent game.
