Friendly match
played on Tuesday, 11 December 2018, at 7.45pm

SUMMARY

In this friendly match against Alsager Town of the Hallmark Security (NW Counties) League Division One South, our unpaid special correspondent at the game commented, "We won 2-0 with two first-half goals from Ben Elliott and we had numerous chances in the second half to add to the lead. Most of the play went through Sam Heathcote playing in midfield. Alsager offered nothing really. We made a flurry of substitutions in the second half. Crowd 30 to 40".

BACKGROUND

This game had been arranged to give some fringe members of the first-team squad some match action and also to have a look at the potential of some of the talent in the reserve and youth teams.

REPORT

Altrincham scored the game's only two goals in a five-minute spell midway through the first half. Youth team striker Ben Elliott was the scorer on both occasions, the opener arriving after 26 minutes and the second only some four minutes later. This matched Ben's perrformance in pre-season when he scored twice at Rhyl in another frindly game.

Elliott's first goal resulted from a fine pass from Jack Ryan. The Alsager goalkeeper got a hand to the shot but could not keep it out of his net.

The second Altrincham goal came when Tom Westall, a reserve who graduated to the reserves via George Heslop's youth team, received a pass from Ryan before feeding Elliott who netted from 15 yards.

Alsager showed little sign of retrieving the game and, both reserve striker Joel Swift and Tom Westall, had good chances to increase the lead. However, Alsager did threaten to pull back a goal but Wynne kept out a shot and a follow-up from a chance created by his own under-par clearance.
