BACKGROUND

For the first time since 2000, when they played a pre-season game in Dublin, Altrincham set sail on the Irish Sea. This time the purpsoe was to play an Isle of Man XI in a friendly game arranged by Alty director, Lawrence Looney, a resident of the island. Ironically his arrival at the match was delayed by fog at Ronaldsway airport.

REPORT

The Isle of Man suffered an early injury blow before Altrincham cruised into a three-goal lead inside twenty minutes on the artificial surface at The Bowl in Douglas. From a Hulme lay off from Williams's intended shot, Sean Miller opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a shot which the keeper was unable to deal with.

After 16 minutes an error by the home keeper, as he attempted to kick clear, allowed Hulme to double the score. And, just four minutes later, the Alty front man netted again, this time from a Miller through ball after White had advanced on the right.

The Isle of Man enjoyed a better spell before a fourth goal was added after the interval by Tom Peers, fresh from a successful summer playing soccer in the USA. Trialist Elliot Rokka made it five from a Johnston pass before Jordan Hulme, completed his hat-trick with a tap-in late in the game.
