Altrincham were without wingers Newton and Oyibo for this NWYA Open Cup match but they were on top from the start. They took a tenth-minute lead through captain Rhain Davis. Some ten minutes later, Dominic O'Gara made it 2-0 and five minutes afterwards it was 3-0 as Kieran Furse scored.
But Barnton scored before the break to leave the score 3-1.

Rhain Davis made it 4-1 early in the second half and, a quarter of an hour later, he completed his hat-trick to make the score 5-1.
Barnton brought on two forwards as Alty made changes of their own. The tall visitors' players were now causing more problems, especially from corners. From one of these, they headed a goal, before repeating that procedure, eight minutes from time, to make the score 5-3.
Having relaxed their grip on the game, Alty reintroduced some of their substituted players and their experience helped to see out the match.
