REPORT

Report courtesy of George Heslop

Altrincham had only fourteen of their twenty-man squad available due to injury and County FA commitments for this game, which was taking place fewer than than 72 hours after the long and testing away trip to Workington in the FA Youth Cup.

Assistant manager Chris Adams had a family commitment which precluded his attending this game but Steve Crane deserved a lot of credit for his assistance to the manager, George Heslop, in this game. Both at workington and, in the previous round of the FA Youth Cup, against FCUM, Altrincham had started slowly so management emphasized the need for a good first-half performance in this league match. The players responded with a good attitude and reached half-time 3-0 ahead.

The opening goal came from a corner, which Harry Dulson headed home at the back post. Captain Rhain Davis netted the second and the third was added shorlty before the interval by Dominic O'Gara.

About ten minutes into the second half, O'Gara made it 4-0. A fifth goal followed from Dominic Newton before O'Gara netted again to complete an excellent hat-trick. Newton then scored his second to make it 7-0. The only disappointment was that Altrincham were unable to kep a clean sheet. With virtually the last kick of the game, Skelmersdale scored a consolation goal.

Chester FC's draw with Curzon Ashton meant that today's win left Altrincham just a point behind the leaders with a game in hand in the Premier Division table.
