REPORT

The game got under way on a very fast Astroturf surface and the visitors soon fell behind (5 mins). But Altrincham then settled into a pattern of first-time passing, which yielded five goals in thirty-five minutes before the interval.

As the second half got under way, with a comfortable lead under the team's belts, the Altrincham management was considering its substitution options. But these were deferred when, as in the first half, Morecambe scored an early goal.

However, Altrincham once more settled and made it 6-2. A regular sequence of rolling substitutions followed and two further goals were scored to make the final tally 8-2.

A debutant substitute for the Robins was former Runcorn midfielder Jeff King, who is the nephew of Altrincham FC legend, John King. When told that his nephew had joined Altrincham Youth and that their manager was George Heslop, former Alty manager John was reportedly incredulous that the man he had appointed Matchday Secretary at Moss Lane many years ago was still putting himself through the rigours of touchline football management!

Altrincham's scorers were Pouncey (2), Hughes (2), Cunliffe (2), Ubah and Westall.
