REPORT

Report based on information kindly supplied by George Heslop.

Altrincham Youth were again without Jack Martiny-Schofield as well as the long-term injured Jake Barnabas, who is out of action till November. Also, defender Alan Tansinda was unavailable through work commitments, whilst Nathan Gray and Jack Cottrill were also sidelined by injury. Matt Fearon returned to the side after first-team duty earlier in the week and he took over the captain's armband from Sam Grimshaw.

These two sides had met the previous Sunday when Mossley had secured an extra-time win in the Open Cup. For today's match, Alty adopted an unaccustomed diamond formation and they took an early lead through Duncan Watmore in the fourth minute. The Lilywhites equalised after 29 minutes through Rutter, before Bezzina put them ahead in the 44th minute when Joe Coombs was unable to clear the ball.

Alty reverted to 4-4-2 in the second half, having had to make two changes through injury at the interval. Mark Napier-Hemy replaced Ollie Riley in midfield whilst Declan Barry was replaced by Jordan Mainoo-Hames.

Mossley made it 3-1 through McKenzie's 67th minute penalty and soon afterwards Adam Bezzina was replaced by Matthew Singleton. A couple of minutes later, Matt Fearon was sent off for a second cautionable offence.

For Mossley, the injured Omar McKenzie gave way to Prince Amadin and likewise, Kane Joyce was subbed by Justin Schall. In the 77th minute Alty brought on Redmond McGuire as lone striker in place of Derryn Ofori. Alty were now playing 3-5-1 but, despite being a man short, pulled the score back to 3-2 when Ryan Barry converted a freekick (79 mins).

Remarkably, Alty's ten-men secured a last-minute equalizer when Sam Grimshaw burst up the middle to score. Sam had likewise scored a very late leveller in the previous game with Mossley. Alty had shown great character and determination which brought its reward with this away point.
