REPORT

Altrincham made two changes from their midweek FA Youth Cup win. In addition to the injured Joel Brownhill and Dan Millen, who had sat out that game with injuries, striker Glodi Kuba-Kuba was now also on the injured list. And in the warm-up, captain Dan Shaw aggravated an injury picked up on Saturday in a County game and had to be withdrawn. Into the starting line-up came Kieran Madden and Jamie Brown and onto the bench came Luke Lavelle.

Alty made a slow start to the game and were struggling to retain possession. But there was no real threat to their goal ion the opening stages. After about 30 minutes, Altrincham's injury woes worsened when substitute Marsden damaged his ankle whilst warming up.

Altrincham's performance improved as the game wore on, with keeper Thorn's very long kicks a feature of the game. Just before half time Alty suffered yet another blow when Michael Linney pulled up with a groin strain necessitating a reshuffle with Blaine Whiteside moving forward and Jamie Brown switching to the right wing.

Altrincham gave a better performance in the second half which was marked by an excellent hat-trick by Kieran Madden who has made a strong case for regular promotion to the starting line-up. His first goal came after a passing move in the 56th minute. His second followed good work from Whiteside and ended with a fine shot (70 mins). Kieran completed his hat-trick in the 83rd minute.

But a late lapse in the visitors' defence allowed Morecambe a consolation goal, two minutes from the end. Alty will be hoping that their long injury list shortens in time for Sunday's home match with Prescot Cables and the following Wednesday's FA Youth Cup tie against Cammell Laird.
