REPORT

For their second game of the day, Altrincham retained the same starting line-up which had beaten Wemyss United except that Jones came in between the posts in place of Rigby. Watching the game was Altrincham's first-team keeper Stuart Coburn. Stuart had appeared in the very first Umbro Tournament 15 years ago, when he played for Stretford Victoria as an outfield player.

Altrincham started this game in better vein than they had finished the match against Wemyss, showing more commitment and willingness to work, as well as some crisp passing. For this game they were the better of the sides, shading the outcome on the number of chances created. However, it was not till the 14th minute that that they went ahead in this 25 minute-a-half match. The goal came from Tom Bailey, who chipped his effort over the stranded keeper and into the net. Flixton battled hard, their side including three or four under-19s against Alty's entirely under-18 side but keeper Jones had relatively little to do for Altrincham.

Altrincham's second goal came nine minutes from the end when they won a corner. From this, Zareh-Ourang rose majestically to head home and leave Altrincham with a comfortable lead. With five minutes left, Williamson came on for Lalli. Browne moved to right-midfield and Francis to centre-midfield as Williamson slotted in on the left. Though Altrincham have now won both their games in this tournament, they have yet to hit top form.
