REPORT

Report by George Heslop.

Ona fine, crisp, day, Altrincham had been invited by Macclesfield Town to play a friendly against their Academy side. With Danny Chebrika unavailable due to injury, Altrincham gave a debut to Lewis Bishop in goal.

Altrincham started brightly but this did not last long as Macclesfield took the lead in the fifth minute when their right winger got in at the left hand side and crossed. Altrincham's debutant goalkeeper palmed the ball away but an unmarked forward followed in and tucked the ball away from three yards out. After this, Altrincham battled away but their passing was letting them down and they were giving the ball away. This led to Macclesfield finishing the half 3-0 ahead.

Altrincham made four changes at the start of the second half, the replacements being Danny Gray, Tom Barclay, Ben Shanks-Pepper and Curtis Connell. These changes seemed to make a difference to the passing and approach to goal. This improvement was rewarded in the fiftieth minute when Astley Mulholland cut in from the left flank and finished well to make it 1-3.

Altrincham continued in this vein and, half way through the second half, Matty Williams made it 2-3. However, Macclesfield held out to win 3-2. Six of this Altrincham side will be young enough to be available for the youth side next season.
