Altrincham FC were competing today for the first time in The Umbro International Cup. They have entered the "Class B: Youth" section of the competition which is for players who were under 18 on 31 August 2004. Altrincham could therefore have fielded their youth team from last season. However, manager George Heslop and coach Tony Spilsbury elected to use the competition to build the new team for season 2005-06. The tournament is held on the playing fields of the University of Manchester at Wythenshawe. Altrincham are in a group of six teams, with two games each on Wednesday and Thursday and a fifth scheduled for Friday. From these groups, sides progress either to the Winners' competition or to the "Plate" competition.

Altrincham fielded a comparatively new-look line-up and started uncertainly as the players gradually adjusted to each other's unfamiliar styles. The games consist of two halves of thirty-five minutes and by half-time in this one they led 1-0. The goal arrived when Danny Gray netted from a cross from the left.

In the second half Altrincham's fitness levels and excellent passing produced five more goals; two from Ben Deegan and one apiece from Hassan Zareh-Ourang, Ashley McGrath and Scott Barlow. The substitutions in the second half were McGrath for McNab, who had a hip injury, Robson for Bain and Barlow for Williams. A defensive lapse in the last minute allowed Stockport to score a consolation goal.
