REPORT

The first half saw Alty win numerous free-kicks, the first of note being taken by Hevingham and driven over the bar from 20 yards out, to the right of goal (3 mins). Although Alty had the better of the early stages, Garland's effort from a Waugh free-kick, which hit the side-netting was the nearest to a goal for either side (17 mins).

The free-kicks conceded by Lancaster continued, before Alty won a corner, followed immediately by a City corner (24 mins). Barnes, on the left, was looking Lancaster's most dangerous player but Parker-Chambers was doing a good job keeping him at bay. Lancaster improved as the half progressed and, after winning another corner (28 mins), a cross from Honn came off Clarke to Tapper, who poked the ball over the bar (35 mins).

Next, Hendley won Alty a corner, following which the ball was cleared off the line. But Altrincham then took the lead when Hendley advanced up the inside right channel, outpacing a defender, before scoring (42 mins). As play entered added time, Richard Gresty went down with what looked like a hamstring problem but Neil Thomason's treatment did the trick and Richard was able to continue. However, seconds after the restart, Depeiaza and Hendley collided in centre field and both went down to give Neil further work to do - but eventually both players recovered (45+1 mins).

There was an early stoppage in the second half when the goal-nets had to be refixed to the posts after some children behind the goal at the clubhouse end had disturbed their fixing. Lancaster brought on a sub (52 mins) before Alty won two corners. Lancaster then enjoyed some pressure but neither side seriously threatened a goal with Barnes's 20-yard shot which Milner saved comfortably the best effort of this period. Alty then brought on Adam Ball for James Monaghan (70 mins). Four minutes later Ben Deegan replaced Dion Depeiaza and soon made his presence felt. But Lancaster won a corner shortly aftewards, following which Milner saved well from Barnes (75 mins).

A Stewart freekick forced a corner for Altrincham but disaster struck two minutes later when Lancaster's no.17 fed the dangerous Barnes and, though he screwed his shot badly towards the right of goal, the incoming John Parker Chambers, running towards his own goal, was unable to stop himself knocking the ball into the net for an own goal (80 mins). After another Barnes attack had been stopped, Alty brought on Hassan Zareh-Ourang in midfield for Arron Hevingham who had played for the Reserves on Saturday and had also picked up a knock in this game (81 mins).

Soon, Bryant fed Stewart, who hooked a shot just wide (82 mins). But Lancaster replied with a couple of attacks before Alty appeared to have won the game with a second goal. From a freekick on the centre-right, awarded for holding, Stewart's kick from 30 yards reached Garland at the back post and he nodded the ball home but the linesman gave offside (88 mins). Altrincham won a corner soon afterwards and then a freekick on the edge of the visitors' box after a bad challenge on Parker-Chambers. Following this, Hendley almost got on the end of Stewart's pass, to the left of goal, but the ball ran out of play (0+1 mins). Deegan won a corner in the third added minute but Alty could not find an equaliser.
