REPORT

This match was hastily organised after Altrincham's scheduled Open Cup match against Swinton Town was cancelled following the Swinton club's resignation from the competition.

Kingsley won a corner almost immediately after kick-off before Alty went up the other end and won one themselves. But Kingsley won a second corner as the early stages gave little clue of the goal deluge that was to follow. The first serious threat on goal came when Waugh set Hendley running up the right and he got in a shot, across goal, which went past the far post (9 mins). But Altrincham soon went ahead when Gresty got almost to the by-line, right of goal, before his shot was deflected into the net by a defender (11 mins). Within a minute it was 2-0 as a fine pass from Ball set Hendley free and he netted calmly (11 mins).

Molyneux got in a 20-yard shot for the visitors, which Milner saved comfortably as Kingsley began to settle a little better. Ball then had a shot, wide, before a fine move involving Walker, Waugh and Hendley ended with the last-named's cross which Williams just managed to get over his own bar for an Alty corner on the right (21 mins). Garland then made a good clearance at the Alty end and Milner fielded a 25 yard shot from Chapman (26 mins) before Hendley once again got behind the visitors' square back line but the keeper, Murphy, made a good block. As Jonas threatened to get clear for Kingsley, Waugh made a timely tackle. But then a fine ball from Hassan set Hendley running up the right and, though he was driven inside, he kept possession before firing home from a central position on the edge of the box to make it 3-0 (29 mins).

Ball made it 4-0 when he finished off Hendley's cross after a good move involving Waugh, Hendley and Hassan (32 mins). After Alty had won a corner, Kingsley's Williams (no.6) got in a shot which Milner saved. But once again the pacy Hendley got behind the defence and beat keeper Murphy to the ball before rolling his shot into the empty net (35 mins). Soon after this the game was stopped for six minutes as the Kingsley manager came onto the pitch and handed the referee a mobile phone! He had seemingly rung the League secretary to complain about some rowdy spectators who had come out to watch the game after being in the Wythenshawe Town bar since their Merseyside team had beaten Town earlier in the day in a cup match. After play resumed, a fairly uneventful few minutes passed before half-time.

Alty brought on Depeiaza at half-time, for Walker, and they soon won a corner. Hendley had the ball in the net soon afterwards, following a good clearance by Milner, but the goal was ruled out for offside (48 mins). Alty continued to get caught offside but they soon scored number six when Ball drove the ball into the bottom corner, to the keeper's left, from 20 yards (52 mins). Kingsley responded from the kick off by going to the other end where Molyneux scored a good goal to make it 6-1 (52 mins). Depeiaza then had an effort chalked off for offside before Kingsley brought on Jenkins (55 mins). Hendley then had an effort blocked by Murphy and the keeper made a good recovery to save Garland's follow-up, too. Garland then went off to be replaced by Salmon, with Horner moving into the back four (56 mins). Next, Bane replaced Parker-Chambers at left-back (57 mins).

Depeiaza made it 7-0 from a Ball pass (60 mins) then Kingsley got in behind both Horner and Milner but their player missed a completely open goal and hid his head in his shirt in dismay (61 mins). Ball scored number eight, off the keeper, after good work from Hendley and Depeiaza (62 mins). Next, Ball shot narrowly wide before Kingsley made a double substitution. Alty continued to be caught offside until Hendley again got free only for Murphy to save, at the cost of a corner. Following this, Depeiaza turned a defender and scored number nine (71 mins).

Hassan shot narrowly wide before Hendley had a shot saved. Double figures arrived when Depeiaza scored again following build up work from Monaghan and Ball (75 mins). Play was all one-way now and Hendley scored again, though Murphy got a hand to his shot (77 mins) before he also added Alty's twelfth, two minutes later, with a cheeky chip over the keeper (79 mins). Hendley then overdid it as he tried to walk round the keeper before Salmon made it 13-1 (84 mins). A poor defensive pass from Kingsley fed Hendley for his sixth and Alty's fourteenth, another chip over the keeper (85 mins). Hendley then tried to backheel a pass into the goal from Salmon's pass before scoring more conventionally with two minutes left, to make it 15-1.

This was Alty Youth's record win, surpassing the two 10-0 away wins at Chorley (December 2003) and Euxton Villa (September 2000). Amazingly it was also Altrincham's first home win of the season in the league! Kingsley had no answer to Altrincham's pace up front but to their credit they kept going to the end and at no time did they resort to foul tactics to stop the rout.
