BACKGROUND:

This match had been postponed from the Christmas period, so it was the first meeting between these sides this season. After a run of eight straight wins, York had hit a rocky patch, whilst Alty were in a sequnece of three successive 1-1 draws. York started the game in 6th place, whilst Alty lay 11th.

Manager Graham Heathcote had little flexibility with the broken leg suffered on Saturday by Tom Kearney and injury to Robbie Lawton reducing his choices still further.
