    38 different players were named in league match squads in 2008 and 36 in cup matches. The only players named in squads who never started a game in 2008 were Danny Heffernan and Carlos Roca. Danny made one cup appearance from the bench whilst Carlos played seven league games as a sub. Val Owen started just one league and one cup match in 2008 and Pat McFadden started one league match only. Other players who did not start a league game in 2008 were loan player Luke Waterfall, who made one sub appearance in the league and 3 cup starts and defender Paul Tierney, who made 3 league sub appearances and one cup start.
