REPORT

Based on information kindly suppied by Neil Brown

In a sometimes physical encounter, Alty took the lead after 10 minutes through Lee Hendley. For the next 25 minutes play was fast and furious until Fleetwood equalised when a player was left unmarked from a corner (35 mins). Then their number 8 was allowed time to score with an overhead kick and make it 2-1 at the interval. Fleetwood had worked very hard, closing Alty down well.

Alty made changes as McAllister and Mike Brown were replaced by debutants Astley Mulholland, from the Youth team and Dave Roberts. Heffernan moved to centre-back. But the home side went 3-1 up in controversial circumstances as Wedge was pushed to the floor and Fleetwood went on to score. The referee later said it had been a shoulder charge rather than a foul. Before the end Maylett, a trialist from Chorlton, came on but Fleetwood added a fourth. Manager Neil Brown described Fleetwood as the “hardest working team in the League”.
