REPORT

The following report is based on information kindly supplied by Neil Brown.

With Anthony Wealle having work commitments and Rico Richards getting over flu, Danny Grimshaw moved up front where he was partnered by Rosalyn Docta. Adam Brindle was with Curzon Ashton so Japanese defender Hiro Inoye came in at centre-back. Ashley Brown replaced Grimshaw at left back.

The pitch at Great Harwood was very bobbly and the facilities were not at their best following a fire at the ground. Alty adopted a 4-4-2 formation, whereas Stanley played a 4-1-4-1 initially. Altrincham took an early lead when Ashley Brown fed Thompson and after an interchange of passes, Grimshaw, on th left, found Docta who flicked the ball on before placing a shot into the right corner of the net (8 mins). Alty dominated the opening ten minutes or so but, after their goal, allowed Stanley back into the game.

From around the 20th minute Stanley pressed and they got their reward with an equaliser at the half-hour stage through Tierney. Eight minutes later Stanley went ahead after Alty had lost possession and a couple of quick passes ended with the ball being slid past Liddiard.

Alty had the better of the second half, during which they made three substitutions. After 51 minutes Daley replaced Docta, in a straight swap of strikers. Around the hour mark Monaghan came on for Mike Brown and after 68 minutes, Arron Hevingham replaced Thompson. Chalmers then went up front as Hevingham settled into midfield.

Later, Alty changed to having only three at the back, with Ashley Brown moving forward onto the wing and Grimshaw playing inside. After 80 minutes, they got a well deserved equaliser when Monaghan found Grimshaw on the right and he fired home well, finding the bottom corner.
