REPORT

Altrincham delivered a poor first-half perfomance with many passes going astray and chances going begging - Rod Thornley missed a couple and Kieran one. The midfield was also struggling to create any moves. A silly defensive mistake cost Alty the opening goal when a ball was played through the open Alty midfield and caught the defence flat-footed, giving Liddiard no chance to make a save.

After what manager Neil Brown describes as a "nice" team-talk had taken place at half time, a change in midfield was made. Lewis Chalmers come on for Paul Monaghan, having been given clear instructions as to what was required and also encouragement to show the management what he could do. The interval talk and personnel change had their effect as Lewis controlled, encouraged and organised the Altrincham side, scoring one goal and creating two more. All the players responded and destroyed BPA with accurate passing, good runs and teamwork.

Alty's first came from Lewis Chalmers (55 mins), then Rod Thornley scored (59 mins), before Sean Smith made it 3-1 (65 mins). After 66 minutes Adie Ore gave way to Mike Brown and after 70 minutes Wayne Leather replaced James Marsden. It was good to see Wayne again and he was able to ease his way back with a comfortable 20 minutes as he returned from an ankle ligament injury. Rod Thornley added the fourth (70 mins) and Kieran Lugsden completed the scoring (80 mins). The game ended 5-1 but it could have been more.
