REPORT

After an uneventful couple of minutes, Altrincham won a corner on their left wing. A training routine paid off as Sam Briggs played in a cross, which was met by a stooping header into the net by Tracey Blanchard-Webb to make it 1-0 (3 mins). Four more Altrincham corners arrived before the game reached its 15-minute mark as the home side set the pace. The second of these corners arose after good work from Blanchard-Webb which allowed Cloe Alsop to get in a shot, which the Balcon keeper tipped round the post.

Next, a testing cross from Blanchard-Webb set up a shot for Katherine McIntyre, which went wide. However, play soon switched to the other end as the Blacon no.10 won her side a corner. But it was Altrincham who scored the next goal, as Blanchard-Webb hammered home a shot from inside the box (21 mins).

As the game approached the half-hour point, Blacon now enjoyed a good spell. But a 20-yard shot, fielded by Lizzie Brereton, was the nearest to a goal for the visitors (34 mins).

Altrincham soon got forward again when more good work from Blanchard-Webb led to a cross from Macardy and Alsop converted the chance to make it 3-0 (37 mins).

The visitors responded positively, winning two corners but Altrincham finished the half on the offensive, once more. A fine ball from Heather Scott found Cloe Alsop whose shot was pushed onto the post by the keeper but Blanchard-Webb darted in to complete her hat-trick and make the score 4-0 at the interval (43 mins).

Altrincham brought on Tallulah Anton for Caroline Moran at the interval whilst Blacon were obliged to move their no.4 into goal after she had taken a knock in the first half, with the keeper playing in outfield instead. Seven minutes later, Sam Jones replaced Cloe Alsop for Altrincham.

Altrincham remained on the offensive as Sarah McManus came on (57 mins). In fact, between the interval and the hour-mark, Altrincham gained three corners at which point Becky Hailes replaced Hayley Macardy. The rolling subs continued as Caroline Moran now returned in place of Heather Scott (64 mins).

Tracey Blanchard-Webb went close, twice, the second attempt being a shot, beaten out well by the Blacon keeper. However, a Blacon shot at the other end now forced Lizzie Brereton into action before the visitors won themselves two corners (72 mins).

Next, for Altrincham, a McManus effort went across the face of goal. After this, Altrincham made it 5-0 when excellent work from Blanchard-Webb allowed her to get in a cross from the right of the box and Sam Jones met the ball with a fine header into the net (76 mins).

After Blacon's no.6 had forced a save (80 mins), Alty brought back Alsop for Blanchard-Webb (82 mins). Meanwhile, McManus was having an impact on the right and she now won a corner, which she took herself. From this, Cloe Alsop's header struck the crossbar (85 mins).

From a later corner, again well taken by McManus, Chloe Brereton headed home Altrincham's sixth goal of the game (89 mins). So, an impressive Altrincham performance had taken the Ladies convincingly into Round Three of the Cup.

Next week, Alty again meet Blacon, this time in an away league fixture.
