REPORT

The following report comes courtesy of John McManus.

Following all the hard work and preparation pre-season the new season had finally arrived. Blacon Youth Ladies were the visitors to Beech Avenue for the opening game.

The game got underway with both teams eager to gain advantage. Both sides seemed evenly matched in the early stages until a through ball played into the heart of the Altrincham defence produced the first goal after only four minutes (0-1).

Altrincham appeared undeterred by this set back and went on the offensive. After eighteen minutes, and against the run of play, a ball played into the Altrincham six-yard box was stabbed home at the near post (0-2).

The only thing separating these teams was the score line. Altrincham Ladies continued to mount several attacks into the Blacon half, coming close to reducing their deficit .

Eventually Altrincham Ladies' persistence paid off. Following a great run down the left, the ball was played to the back post and was met by Nat Thornley (1-2).

This was just reward on the balance of play. Following some fine passing interchange in midfield a ball was played to Nat Thornley who ran towards the bye line and delivered a ball to the far post beating the Blacon keeper on forty three minutes (2-2). Half time was approaching too soon for Altrincham Ladies, who were beginning to gel.

The Ladies left the field at the break confident that with the same determination and team work they could finish their task and secure all three points.

As anticipated, Altrincham Ladies came out in the second half buoyed up and ready for the challenge.

The Ladies looked much better in the second half, playing some fantastic football at times. On fifty minutes, some fine build-up play resulted in Tracey Blanchard-Webb despatching the ball past the helpless Blacon keeper (3-2). The game had hardly settled following the goal when a fine through ball to Tracey Blanchard-Webb increased Altrincham Ladies' advantage on fifty-four minutes (4-2).

Taking into consideration Altrincham were playing several debutants and also playing players out of position due to injury and absenses, this was a great performance.

Tracey made it five on 72 minutes to get her hatrick (5-2).

Altrincham continued to press forward in the closing stages without adding to their tally.

Even at this early stage all indications point to Altrincham Ladies having a good season.
