BACKGROUND:
Gloucester had risen from the foot of the table with a stunning 5-1 win over Hednesford Town, whilst Altrincham has faltered recently.
REPORT
Altrincham started well and as early as the opening minute, Luca Havern forced a good save from his goalbound header. But, then, one of City's loan players, Kotwica narrowly missed the target with two shots within a short spell.
Altrincham had a goal ruled out for offside after Greg Wilkinson’s header found the net, whilst Carl Rogers twice hit the crossbar twice. The Gladiators went ahead in 14 minutes when Waldon headed home Groves's cross. Altrincham almost equalised straightaway but Walshaw’s saw his shot go wide. However, Alty continued to press, with a Walshaw header forcing an excellent stop from goalkeeper Green, before his namesake cleared off the line.
At the other end, Coburn was in action to deny Giglio but Altrincham continued to create chances with Carl Rodgers striking the crossbar from close range. Alty paid for not converting their chances in the 36th minute when Groves cut in from the left before feeding Waldon. From outside the box he found the net but needed a major deflection to get the ball past Coburn.

Lawrie and Reeves replaced Smikle and Walshaw in the 72nd minute of a second half in which, undaunted by their two-goal deficit, Altrincham twice went close to scoring through Wilkinson. His first effort came from a Smikle feed before he actually had the ball in the net from a header but was ruled to have been offside. For Gloucester, Waldon spurned a chance but it was Altrincham who again went close in added time when Rodgers hit the crossbar for the second time, this time with a header from a corner.
